COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Charles Edward Blackwell, 80, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, in Colorado Springs, after a long battle with cancer.
Charles was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Cape Girardeau to Paul and Hazel Brasher Blackwell. They preceded him in death.
Those left behind to honor Charles' memory are his loving wife, Barbara Blackwell; daughter, Brooke Smith; and brother, John Blackwell.
Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964 to 1967, fighting overseas in the Vietnam War and earning the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged.
His remains will be cremated, and his ashes will be above ground at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
An above-ground military service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in approximately one year. The family will send out details to those interested in attending Charles' service once a date has been confirmed.
