BENTON, Mo. -- Charles Harvey Bauer, 81, of Benton died Monday, July 24, 2017, at his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1936, in Chicago to Wilbert and Louise Schellhammer Bauer. He married Penelope Johnson in 1964. She preceded him in death in 1975.
He was a salesman for Taurus Bauer & Associates and G.W. Bauer & Associates. He was the second pick in the 1954 Major League Baseball draft by the Chicago White Sox.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a son, Chuck (Thelma) Bauer of Benton; a daughter, Louise (Daniel) Suarez of Arlington Heights, Illinois; a brother, William (Dolores) Bauer of Boerne, Texas; a sister-in-law, Peggy Bauer of Naples, Florida; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, George Bauer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel, 100 N. Winchester St. in Benton.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 10180 Gravois Road in St. Louis, with the Rev. Dennis Lowe officiating.
