Chalmer Tackett

Chalmer O. Tackett, 83, of Jackson died Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born March 8, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Luther O. and Celess Clark Tackett. He and Delores E. Johnson were married Nov. 2, 1957, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death Sept. 8, 2011.

Chalmer served in the Marine Corps and worked for Florsheim Shoe Co. He was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his two daughters, Rhonda (Tony) Hafford and Vickie (Rodney) Bowman, both of Cape Girardeau; a son, Ronnie D. Tackett of Jackson; two sisters, Lillian Pender of Chaffee, Missouri, and Barbara Layer of Fruitland; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Darrell E. Faire Sr. officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
