Celeste Menees, 100, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1902, near Puxico, Mo., daughter of Alfred and Addie Rucker Sutter. She and Ogle O. Menees were married Sept. 9, 1938. He died May 5, 1983.
Menees attended Rock Hill and Puxico schools.
She was a bookkeeper at Citizens State Bank in Puxico during World War I. She began work with her father in the family business, Puxico Mercantile Co., in 1935. She sold the business to her brother in 1965. She was also city clerk for Puxico 25 years.
Menees was a former member of United Methodist Church in Puxico and had been treasurer, taught Sunday School, and held other offices. She transferred her membership to Centenary United Methodist Church when she moved to Cape Girardeau in 1987.
She was a member of Puxico Chapter Order of Eastern Star, charter member of Puxico Business and Professional Women's Club, and past member of White Shrine in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Survivors include a brother, Alton Sutter of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico after 6 p.m. today. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. James Sanderson and Wiley McGhee officiating. Burial will be in Puxico Cemetery.
