CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Cecilia "Sis" Hindman, 93, of Chaffee passed away Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 28, 1921, to Charles and Igenia Strack Griffin, the second oldest of 10 children. Cecilia and Clarence L. Hindman were married Aug. 12, 1938, in the pastor's living quarters at St. Ambrose Church. He preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1997.
Cecilia was known as Sis most of her life. Some of her greatest pleasures in life were having a clean house, cooking and baking for her family and friends, and spending time with her sisters. She also had a "green thumb" when it came to her flowers.
Sis was a member of St. Ambrose Parish and Daughters of St. Ambrose. She had been a machine operator at Inland Shoe Co. in Advance, Missouri.
Survivors include a son, Charles Hindman of Kentucky; two daughters, Virginia Harris and Glenda (Larry) Pobst of Chaffee; grandchildren, Regina (Mike) Boone and Sara (Jason) Berry of Chaffee, Amy (Brian) Glueck of Friedheim, Megan (Jeremy) Bain of Kelso, Missouri, and Zachary (Allana) Hindman of Des Arc, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Blake Graviett of Gordonville, Issabella, Sophia and Maxwell "Max" Hindman of Des Arc, Tiffany and Macey Harris and Connor and Grant Berry of Chaffee and Grady Glueck of Friedheim; a brother, Paul Griffin of Chaffee; three sisters, Helen Knudson of Fairdealing, Missouri, Shirley Griffin and Pauline Asmus of Chaffee; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Church, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be alongside her husband in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
The family wishes to give "praises and thanksgiving" in appreciation to all who took such compassionate care of Sis the last nine months of her life, in both units at the Lutheran Home, Lutheran Hospice care group who provided such comforting care and to those at Chaffee Nursing Center who gave great care in the beginning stages of her Alzheimer's disease.
