JONESBORO, Ill. -- Cecil Ray Whitney, 59, of Jonesboro died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at his home.

He was born Nov. 5, 1944, at Charleston, Mo., son of Allen and Myrtle Kidd Whitney. He and Patricia Kay Hileman were married June 23, 1967, at Mill Creek, Ill.

Whitney worked as a construction operator and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sandy Dare of Jonesboro; two sons, Charles Whitney of Jonesboro, Thomas Whitney of Virginia Beach, Va.; five sisters, Patricia Smith and Sue Atwell of Cobden, Ill., Rose Evans of Anna, Ill., Ruth Wells and Cindy Ott of South Carolina; three brothers, Mike Whitney of Dongola, Ill., Mark Whitney of Elco, Ill., William Whitney of North Carolina; five grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends and family may call at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Whitney family home for a memorial.
