JACKSON -- Cecil J. Unger, 67, of Jackson, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1993, at his residence. He was born July 18, 1926, at Cape Girardeau, son of Cecil and Lucy Clippard Unger. JACKSON -- Cecil J. Unger, 67, of Jackson, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 1993, at his residence.

He was born July 18, 1926, at Cape Girardeau, son of Cecil and Lucy Clippard Unger.

He married Edith Maxine Seabaugh, Aug. 17, 1947, at Jackson.

Unger was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and served as president of the corporation of the church.

From 1949-1955 he taught school at Flat River, Mo. From 1955-1960 he was professor of history at Southwest Baptist University at Bolivar, Mo.

He was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and received his master's degree from Vanderbilt University at the Peabody College campus.

Unger's post-graduate work was completed at the University of Missouri-Columbia and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy.

For the past 34 years, Unger has been a financial planner with IDS Financial Services, Inc.

Unger was a former president of the Jackson School Board which he served on from 1962-1974.

He was a past president of the Missouri Baptist Foundation. He was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club, of which he was a past president and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Cynthia Campbell of Lexington, Ky., Suzanne Flowers of Russellville, Ky., Lanette Whitford of Warrensburg, Mo., Clarinda Unger of St. Louis; a sister, Barbara LaPierre of Jackson; three grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Rodney Travis officiating.

Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery.
