Carson Lehman Pitman III, 67, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Nov. 8, 1953, in St. Louis to Carson L Pitman Jr. and Imogene Halbrook.
Survivors include four children, Carson Jordan of Louisiana, Brenda Fields and Robert Buckley, both of Sikeston, Missouri, and Joseph Nemac of Florida; one sister, Donna Kruse of Sikeston; one brother, Carl Pitman of St. Louis; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
He served in the U.S. Army from June 1971 to October 1972.
He received a Bachelor of Science in social work from Southeast Missouri State University.
He was an active member of West End Boulevard Church of Christ in Cape Girardeau and served the Lord faithfully there for many years.
Among other things, Carson will long be remembered for his singing "Happy Birthday" phone calls to members of the congregation. Almost every conversation with Carson ended with a question and a statement. The question was "Is there anything I can do for you?" and the statement was "I love you." An example we could all benefit from following.
He will be missed.
Military commitment ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
Memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the West End Boulevard Church of Christ, 328 S. West End Blvd., Cape Girardeau.
McCombs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
