SIKESTON -- Carrie Mae Harris, 66, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at her home. She was born Aug. 18 1933, in Hughes, Ark., daughter of the Rev. J.L. Nabors Sr. and Gracie Moccasin Nabors.
She and Alonzo Harris Sr. were married April 29, 1952. He survives.
She worked as an LPN for the Sikeston Convalescent Center for 16 years, and the Visiting Nurse's Association for four years. She also was a substitute nurse for the Sikeston School District. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, Missionary Society teacher and choir member. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Ruby Hughes Chapter 117 OES, a member of the Starlight Savings Club and Foster Parent Association as well as the Sikeston Community Credit Union.
Survivors include four sons, Alonzo Harris Jr. and the Rev. Michael Harris Sr., both of Sikeston, Paul Harris of Memphis, Tenn., and James Harris of Kansas City, Mo.; 10 daughters, Shirlee Harris, Carolyn Yarber, Sandra Brooks, Tracye Green, Kimberly Sanders, Shauna Harris and Hope Harris, all of Sikeston, Marilyn Harris of Seattle, Wash., Dawna Allen of Cleveland, Ohio, and Melvina Smith-Harris of the home.
Other survivors include nine brothers, James Nabors Jr., Lee Earl Nabors, the Rev. L.J. Nabors and Lynn Nabors of Sikeston, the Rev. Roy Nabors, the Rev. Benjamin Nabors, Tommy Nabors and David Nabors of Milwaukee, Wis., and Calvin Nabors of Raleigh, N.C.; six sisters, Vera Rollins of Cape Girardeau, Florida Nabors and Joyce McKinney of Sikeston, Tina Nabors and Linda Nabors of Milwaukee, Wis., Clarinda Palmer of Baton Rouge, La.; a stepsister, Leatha Foster of Alton, Ill.; 38 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 12 foster grandchildren; and a foster great-grandchild. A stepdaughter preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Sikeston. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. L.J. Nabors officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
