Mrs. Carrie Alice Findley Bolen, 91, of Chateau Girardeau, died Thursday, May 2, 1991, at Chateau Health Center.
She was born March 23, 1900, in Bunker Hill, Ind., daughter of George Orlando and Bertha Jane Daniels Hoffman. She first married Dr. William Oscar Findley May 30, 1920, in Chalmer, Ind. He died Oct. 23, 1966. She later married Dr. Homer R. Bolen March 12, 1973, in Tucson, Ariz. He died Jan. 27, 1988.
Bolen received teaching certificates from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., an A.B. degree from Indiana University in Bloomington in 1923, and master's degree in education from Southern Illinois University in 1955.
She taught at schools in Indiana from 1918 until moving to Cape Girardeau in 1925. She taught at Central High School from 1935-58, and at Southeast Missouri State University from 1958-67.
Bolen was a member of Centenary Methodist Church from 1925-75, and had been a member of First Christian Church since 1975.
She was a member of Missouri State and Missouri Science Teachers Associations, Audubon Society of Missouri, Delta Kappa Gamma, Hi-Noon Toastmasters, Cape Girardeau Garden Club, Cape Girardeau Rose Society, St. Mark's Chapter 167 Order of Eastern Star, and Sanders Circle of First Christian Church.
Bolen was organizer of Bluebird Chapter of the Audubon Society here, was a member and past president of Fort D Senior Citizens, member of Calvary Shrine 8 White Shrine of Jerusalem and was past worthy high priestess in 1953, and charter member of Cape Court 14 Order of the Amaranth of Missouri and was past royal matron in 1967.
Survivors include a son, William Findley Jr. of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two stepsons, Charles Bolen of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Robert Bolen of Russelville, Ark.; a half sister, Kathryn Mack of Nipomo, Calif.; five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Wallace Brown will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-7 p.m. Sunday.
