GRANITE CITY, Ill. — Carolyn Matlock, 73, of Granite City passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at her home.

Carolyn was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of the late Robert Stanley Smithey and Rose Laree Randol Smithey.

On July 6, 1963, Carolyn married Edward Matlock in McClure, Illinois. They grew up together as children, living on the same street and attended the same church and school. As fate would have it, they married for life, later moving to Granite City, where they had two children.

Carolyn had worked at Hudson Jewelers in Granite City as a sales associate, and she also enjoyed painting pottery in her younger years. Carolyn was an amazing cook and baker. There wasn’t anything she couldn’t create in the kitchen.

She thoroughly enjoyed attending church, singing in the choir, shopping with her daughter and reading. Her greatest joy was being a wife, mother and a grandmother to Austin and Savana. She referred to Savana as her little sweet pea, and Austin as her little preacher.

Carolyn loved life, she loved to laugh, but most of all she loved her family. She will be deeply and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
