Carol Sue Whitaker, daughter of the late Clarence and Adele Huff Gold, was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Glen Allen, Missouri, and departed her life Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at Country Place in Scott City at the age of 85. She was a former employee of Pyramid Nursing in-home health care in Cape Girardeau. Carol Whitaker

Carol Sue Whitaker, daughter of the late Clarence and Adele Huff Gold, was born Oct. 3, 1938, in Glen Allen, Missouri, and departed her life Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at Country Place in Scott City at the age of 85.

She was a former employee of Pyramid Nursing in-home health care in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Broadway Methodist Church in Scott City, and cared very much for her church family and friends.

Carol was first united in marriage to Wayne Gross in Hernando, Mississippi. He preceded her in death. She was also united in marriage to Richard Whitaker in Gramercy, Louisiana. He preceded her in death Feb. 11, 2005.

Survivors include a son, Todd (Becky) Gross; three daughters, Bonnie (Jack Lhomes) Davenport, Debbie Heisserer and Janet (Randy) Cattron; sister, Brenda Gold Gravaglia; 10 grandchildren, Amy Wilfawn, Stephen Kennedy, Elizabeth Penny, Jennifer Howell, Christopher Scherer, Kimberley Sudfeld, Casey Cattron, Carlie (Zach) Westrich, Brendan Gross and Samuel Gross; five great-grandchildren, Ryan Wilfawn, Brayden Wilfawn, Bailee Penny, Chloe Sudfeld, Audrey Scherer and Amelia Sudfeld; and two great-great-grandchildren, Allie and Sophia Wilfawn.

Besides her husbands and parents, Carol was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Gold Jr. and Larry "Butch" Gold, and a sister, Audrey "Bonnie" Gold.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Interment will follow.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
