Carol Ann Graves Unnerstall, 67, died at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at her home, after an illness of some months.
She was born Aug. 12, 1937, in Gary, Ind., daughter of David A. and Mary Campbell Graves. She and K.J. "Sam" Unnerstall were married Aug. 23, 1957, in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include her husband, Sam, of Cape Girardeau; a son, John David Unnerstall of Sedgewickville, Mo.; a daughter, Julia Unnerstall of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Jo Graves Nunnally of El Cajon, Calif.; three grandchildren, Zachary John Stagner of Cape Girardeau, Samuel David Unnerstall and Colton Jack Unnerstall, both of Sedgewickville.
Mrs. Unnerstall was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of Missouri. She was vice president, secretary and treasurer of Unnerstall Drug Store until the family business closed. She also worked for Famous Barr in Cape Girardeau. In 1997 she became a deputy clerk for Cape Girardeau County under Rodney Miller.
She was past president of DAR, Daughters of the American Colonists, past member of Jaycee wives and took part in the Jaycee Follies many years. She was a former Girl Scout leader. Her loves were God, family, friends and country.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Derek Swanson officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be Steve Strong, Rodney Miller, Matt Burrows, Jerry Reynolds, Chris Blankenship, Butch Boyd and Walter Ford. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tater Hill Deer and Gun Club, and they are J.R. Fischer, Don Vogel, Richard Dirnberger, John Crites, Tom Boston, Bill Likens, Vern Hopkins and Bill Proffer. Deceased members are Richard Knaup and Runyon Dyer.
Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
