Carol Lee Aufdenberg Kutscher, 83, of Jackson went to be with Jesus on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. She passed away at Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, where she resided the past few years.
The third of seven children, Carol was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Tilsit to William August Henry and Ruby Augusta Fluegge Aufdenberg. She was baptized Jan. 26, 1941, and confirmed into the Lutheran faith April 3, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. She graduated from Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and was a 1959 graduate of Jackson High School.
In 1963, Carol transferred her membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where she and Walter R. Kutscher Jr. were married Sept. 7, 1968. Carol taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the Altar Guild, Parent-Teacher League and Ladies Aid.
Carol enjoyed going to auctions, gardening and quilting. Together, she and Walt enjoyed making wine, square-dancing and playing cards with friends.
Carol had a knack for bookkeeping and was employed at several financial institutions in Jackson. She loved meeting new people and talking with customers. In 2007, she retired from Montgomery Bank in Jackson.
Loving survivors include her husband of 55 years, Walter Kutscher Jr. of Jackson; two children, Timothy (Angela Thompson) Kutscher of Saline, Michigan, and Andrew Kutscher of Jackson; two grandchildren, Vivian and Maximus Kutscher; two siblings, Richard (Judy) Aufdenberg of Jackson and Mary (Ralph) Walther of Cape Girardeau; two sisters-in-law, Carla (the late David) Aufdenberg of Jackson and Annette (Frank) Roth of Scott City; brother-in-law, Melvin (the late Loretta) Uelsmann of Jackson; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Loustell (Joe) Ludwig, Elfrieda (L.R.) Williams, Loretta Uelsmann and David Aufdenberg; parents, William A.H. and Ruby Aufdenberg; and Walt's parents, Walter R. Sr. and Agatha Kutscher.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The Rev. Joshua Schmidt will conduct the funeral at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at the church. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Paul School.
McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
