CHARLESTON -- Carlton Roy Slaten, 77, of Charleston died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born Nov. 13, 1919, at Hot Springs, Ark., son of Edgar Roy and Myrtle G. Kemp Slaten. He lived in Charleston most of his life where he operated Slaten's Salvage and Slaten's Grocery until his retirement...

CHARLESTON -- Carlton Roy Slaten, 77, of Charleston died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Nov. 13, 1919, at Hot Springs, Ark., son of Edgar Roy and Myrtle G. Kemp Slaten.

He lived in Charleston most of his life where he operated Slaten's Salvage and Slaten's Grocery until his retirement.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charleston and served in the Army in World War II.

He married Frances Jackson on June 22, 1950.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Slaten of Charleston and Eddie Slaten of Sikeston; two daughters, Mary Frances Summers of Sikeston and Carla Sue Riley of Houston, Texas; two brothers, Gene and Kemp Slaten of Charleston; three sisters, Minnie Warren and Martha Jane Baker of Charleston, and Pauline Pinello of Pueblo, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

Friends may call from 5:30-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gerald Collier will officiate, with burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
