Carl D. Thiessen, 81, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 14, 1919, in Gaza, Iowa, son of George Andrew and Marie Johanssen Thiessen. He and Blanche Marie Crook were married Dec. 24, 1941, in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Thiessen was employed by Braniff Airways as a radio operator in Corpus Christi before being transferred to various locations throughout Texas and Kansas City, Mo., eventually moving to Hartley, Iowa.

While in Hartley, the Thiessens operated a locker plant for farmers, and in the past few years they worked in a carpet cleaning business. They recently moved to Cape Girardeau from Spencer, Iowa.

He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as an usher in various congregations many years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deborah Jennings of Jackson, Mo.; a son, Steven Thiessen of Anchorage, Alaska; two brothers, Danny Thiessen of Escondido, Calif., Richard Thiessen of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters, Helma Kuske of Escondido, Anna Marie Thiessen of Denver, Colo., Magdalene Lucas of Sioux City, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Earl H. Norman will officiate.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
