EAST PRAIRIE - Carl Author Morgan, 56, of East Prairie, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1992 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 28, 1936 in East Prairie, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Alma Lucy Powers Morgan. On Oct. 23, 1988 he married Norma Jean Walker, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Carl Morgan, Jr., of East Prairie; a daughter, Sonya Cartwright of East Prairie; two step-sons, Alvin Ray Smith of East Prairie, and Thomas Eugene Sterling of Cleveland, Ohio; six step-daughters, Karen Sue Forte of Jacksonville, Fla., Sandra Lee Clubbs, Sheila Collins and Laura Jean Wheatley, all of East Prairie, Jackie Grigsby of Anniston, and Betty Ann Sterling of Charleston; six brothers, Bud, Larry and Jack Morgan and F.E. "Nub" Southard, all of East Prairie, Bill Morgan of Olive Branch, Ill., and Junior Southard of Santa Fe, New Mexico; two sisters, Shirley Jeude of St. Louis and Iva Hatton of Belleville, Ill.; and 20 grandchildren.

Mr. Morgan lived in Mississippi County his entire life, where he was a retired construction worker. He was of the Protestant faith.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. Monday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Shelby Chapel, with Rev. Ernest Brown of Wickliffe, Ky. and Rev. David Dowdy, pastor of the St. James General Baptist Church of East Prairie officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
