SIKESTON, Mo. -- Carl Thurman Joyce, 74, of Sikeston died Monday, April 14, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 5, 1928, at Sikeston, son of Pearl Lyman and Ruth Iola Wallace Joyce. He and Margaret Marie Miller were married June 6, 1948, at Sikeston.

Joyce was a field mechanic with Missouri State Highway Department, retiring in 1983. He was co-owner of Buckner-Ragsdale Clothing Store from 1980 to 1991.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, former member of Jaycees, Kiwanis Club, American Legion and VFW posts.

Joyce was a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served in Missouri National Guard 33 years.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Trent Joyce of St. Louis; a daughter, Caryl Hairston of Sikeston; a sister, Bertha Joyce of Sikeston; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons.

Friends may call at Blanchard Funeral Chapel after 5 p.m. Thursday.

The funeral will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Sandra Schaller officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery at a later date, with full military rites to be conducted.
