Carl O. Gross, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Otto and Bertha Baker Gross. He and Marilyn Marie Brinkopf were married Aug. 18, 1950. She died Dec. 7, 1983. He later married Janet Verseman. She survives...

Carl O. Gross, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Otto and Bertha Baker Gross. He and Marilyn Marie Brinkopf were married Aug. 18, 1950. She died Dec. 7, 1983. He later married Janet Verseman. She survives.

Mr. Gross was a 1950 graduate of the former College High School. He was a cable splicer 33 years with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. He was a member of Maple United Methodist Church, and former member of Jaycees.

He was an avid supporter of Central, Jackson, and Southeast Missouri State University football teams. His hobbies were hunting and fishing.

Mr. Gross served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include two sons, Carl M. Gross of Jackson, David L. Gross of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Carlyn E. Haynes of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Michael D. Gross and Diana L. Gross of Jackson, Amber Marie Cox, Danielle L. Gross and Samantha L. Gross, all of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Medical Center Foundation.
