CHAFFEE -- Carl C. Smith, 85, of Chaffee died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 6, 1914, in Flat River, son of Solomon Cleveland and Daisy Richey Smith. He married Eloise E. Ward on Oct. 11, 1937, at Corning, Ark. She survives.
He worked as a representative for Metropolitan Life Insurance for 37 1/2 years, retiring in 1975.
He formerly served on the Chaffee City Council and was a member of the Chaffee American Legion Post 389 and the Chaffee Chamber of Commerce.
He was a staff sergeant and radio operator in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Chaffee.
He also is survived by a son, Van Smith of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Juanita Charboneau of Bonne Terre, Eloise Cape of Lemay, and Ethel Brown and Arletta Vanderpool, both of Desloge; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee and from 8 to noon Sunday at the chapel.
Visitation will continue after 12:30 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be at the church at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Nancy Woods officiating assisted by Watis Harrell.
Burial will be at Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
