CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Carl Estes Sr., son of the late Thomas Carl Estes and Tessie Pauline Copman, was born July 30, 1939, in Cape Girardeau and departed this life Monday, June 14, 2021, at the Southeast Hospital emergency room in Cape Girardeau at the age of 81 years.

On July 17, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joyce Bishop in Chaffee. Mrs. Estes preceded him in death Dec. 12, 2015. Carl worked at Ford Motor Company of Chicago Heights, Illinois, and Central Packing in Cape Girardeau and was a friendly face to the children of Chaffee schools as custodian and bus driver for several years. Carl was a resident of Chaffee.

Survivors include a daughter, Debbie (Kenny) Essner of Dexter, Missouri; four sons, Keith Estes, Carl (Laura) Estes Jr., and Kevin Estes, all of Chaffee, and Rick Choate of Benton, Missouri; sister, Shirley Hopper of Morley, Missouri; 10 grandchildren, Mallory, Miranda and Storm Estes, all of Chaffee; Montana and Brett Estes of Chaffee; Nicole Egli of Keller, Texas; Kent Essner of Dexter; Andrea Sampanis of Vienna, Virginia; Brian Choate of Chandler, Oklahoma; and Luke Choate of Burke, Virginia; and 12 great-grandchildren, Kolbey Estes, Carter Hendricks, Braden and Samantha Egli, Klaire and Kennedy Essner, Tristan and Isabel Sampanis, Kaylee and Ethan Choate, Mason and Landon Choate. All the grandchildren will forever remember Carl as a loving grandpa who always made them laugh.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William "Bill" Estes Sr., and two sisters, Bernice Bess and Hazel Reams.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral services will then be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Union Park Cemetery.
