EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Carl Bryant Burns of East Prairie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. The Rev. David Dowdy will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park.

Burns, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at his home.

He was born April 8, 1910, at Bertrand, son of Luke and Lela Peteet Burns. He married Murrell Johnson, who died Sept. 13, 1982. He and Hallie Furgerson were married Dec. 11, 1983. She died April 12, 1995.

Burns was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include two daughters, Alene Baker of East Prairie, Evelyn Price of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Bertha Garland of East Prairie, Helen Busby of Hickman, Ky.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a great-grandson, two brothers, and a sister.
