Carl Birmingham, 97, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Holcomb, Missouri, to J.R. and Flossie King Birmingham.
He was married to Imogene Mullins Birmingham, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Piggott (Arkansas) High School.
He served in the Army in the Asian Theatre.
After the war, he settled in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where he worked for Missouri Department of Parks and Natural Resources for over 40 years. Upon his promotion to construction supervisor of parks for the eastern region, he relocated to the Park Hills, Missouri, area until his retirement. He then relocated to his hometown of Piggott, where he was on the city council.
He enjoyed trout fishing, playing pitch and bluegrass.
He was a member of Christian Church of Piggott and Masonic Lodge in Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include daughters, Jean French of Belton, Missouri, Joan (Joe) Rains of Holden, Missouri, and Patti (Linn) Davault of Sikeston, Missouri; sisters, Frankie Gibson of Piggott and Mary Steinbrook of Millstadt, Illinois; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and a son-in-law, Stuart French.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
