CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Two memorial services for Capt. Jeffry Jon Olson of Eaker Air Force Base, Ark., were held earlier this month.
The first was Feb. 8 at Eaker Air Force Base. The second was Feb. 11 at Sharon Lutheran Church in North Dakota with full military rites.
Olson, 27 years old, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 1991, in a B-52 bomber that crashed in the Indian Ocean off Diego Garcia Island.
He was born April 4, 1963, at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, son of retired Air Force Lt. Col. Norris and Dr. Jean Olson. He and the former Cheryl Bono, formerly of Cape, were married Jan. 11, 1989, in Blytheville, Ark.
Olson received a degree in operations research in 1986 from the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and received a master's degree in operations research in 1989 from the University of Arkansas.
He was commissioned in the Air Force in 1986, and was currently a B-52 radar/navigator at Eaker AFB.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Tara Olson of Moorhead, Minn., and a brother, Marc Olson of Minot Air Force Base, N.D.
