Burl M. Medlock, 79, of Gordonville passed away Monday, Jan. 10, 2011 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Delta, son of R.B. and Ruby P. Hodge Medlock. He and Peggy Jo Eaker were married Sept. 9, 1951.
Burl was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville where he was a trustee and served on various church committees. He was inducted into the United States Air Force on Feb. 1, 1951, and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant Oct. 7, 1958, serving in the Korean conflict. He worked as a yard foreman at Lone-star Industries in Cape Girardeau for 37 years, retiring in 1993. Burl was a member of Cape Girardeau American Legion Post 63.
Loving survivors include his wife of 59 years; two sons, Jim D. (Kay) Medlock of St. Charles, Mo., Scott D. (Karen Chadwick) Medlock of Odessa, Mo.; a daughter, Julie Ann (Roger) Dale of Jackson; six grandchildren, A.J. and Joseph Medlock, Chelsea and Jordan Dale, and Powell and Reagan Medlock; and a great-grandson, Parker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ansel W. Medlock, Loren D. Medlock, Ray B. Medlock, Ronald H. Medlock; and a sister, Helen "Earlene" Curry.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church in Gordonville.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Gary Hoffstetter officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, with full military honors.
