SIKESTON -- Funeral service for Burl J. Givens of Sikeston will be held at 2 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate, with burial in Matthews City Cemetery at Matthews.

Givens, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born March 29, 1919, in East Prairie, son of Thomas Jefferson and Strauda Tinnell Givens. He and Lucille Moore were married Aug. 17, 1941.

Givens had been associated with Givens and Sons Grocery in East Prairie, and Texaco. He later was employed by Missouri State Highway Patrol, retiring as office manager/supervisor of the Troop E Satellite Station in Sikeston.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sikeston, Charleston Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Moolah Temple in St. Louis. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a brother, Earl Givens of East Prairie, and a sister, Frances McLain of East Prairie.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.
