Bud Mills

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Alvin Edward "Bud" Mills, 74, of Sikeston died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 8, 1933, in Guin, Ala., son of Jeremiah Matthew and Mary Pugh Mills. He and Sandra L. Teeters Hunt were married March 26, 1982, in Blytheville, Ark.

Mills was a police officer in Sikeston from 1955 to 1958, and became a member of Missouri State Highway Patrol in 1958. He served in Cape Girardeau from 1964 to 1968; in Kennett, Mo., from 1968 to 1973; and as zone commander in Sikeston from 1973 until retiring as a sergeant in 1988.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Mills attended Christian Tabernacle. He was a former member of American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sgt. Terry Mills of Cape Girardeau, Dwight Mills of Dexter, Mo.; three daughters, Barbara Blumhorst and Deanna Linley of Sikeston, Brittany Mills of the home; a stepson, John Hunt of Sikeston; two brothers, William Mills of Amory, Miss., Willis Mills of Houston; a sister, Essie Young of Modesto, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters and a granddaughter.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

The funeral will be at noon Monday at the chapel, with the Rev. E.J. McDougall officiating. Burial will be in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield, Mo., with full military honors provided by Missouri State Military Honors Program.
