BENTON -- Leamon E. "Bud" Markland, 74, of Benton died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. He was born Jan. 9, 1926, at Dexter, son of James Marion and Ellie Laveta Lane Markland. He and Opal Louise Lyons were married Nov. 19, 1948, in St. Louis. She died June 9, 1993...

BENTON -- Leamon E. "Bud" Markland, 74, of Benton died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Jan. 9, 1926, at Dexter, son of James Marion and Ellie Laveta Lane Markland. He and Opal Louise Lyons were married Nov. 19, 1948, in St. Louis. She died June 9, 1993.

He had been an electrician construction lineman and had formerly been a member of IBEW Local 1 at West Frankfort, Ill.

He served as seaman first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Markland of Miami, Okla., and Donald Ray Markland of Sikeston; two daughters, Gail Sexton of Sikeston and Veronica Sadler of Oran; two brothers, Charles Markland of Scott City and Marion "Sonny" Markland of Chicago; two sisters, Icess Milligan of Chaffee and Jeannie Smith of Sikeston; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
