Bruce Bauer

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Bruce B. Bauer, 80, of Jonesboro died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 7, 1927, in Jonesboro, son of Fred Joseph and Norma Lowrance Bauer. He married Jeanetta Cunningham on Oct. 17, 1948, in Piggott, Ark. She died Oct. 11, 2006.

He was a general contractor and also worked as an engineer for the state of Illinois. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a lifetime member of the Anna VFW and a member of the A.J. Elks Lodge.

He served on the Jonesboro Board of Aldermen for 44 consecutive years. April 27, 2007, was proclaimed "Bruce Bauer Day" in Jonesboro in recognition of his many years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Connie Bauer of Jonesboro.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Entombment will be at the Jonesboro Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
