Bret N. Hughes, 40, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Monticello House in Jackson.
He was born Nov. 29, 1962, in Chicago, son of Barry N. Hughes and Bonnie S. Buente McCarter. He and Sarah L. Holshouser were married Dec. 23, 2001.
Hughes attended Woodland High School, and attended Thornton Junior College in Chicago. He worked at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 2002 from Arizona.
He was a medical specialist in the U.S. Army from October 22, 1980, to March 27, 1984.
Survivors include his wife; his father of Glenallen, Mo.; three brothers, Barry Hughes of Cape Girardeau, Brian Hughes of Apache Junction, Ariz., Tommy McCarter of Marble Hill, Mo.; three sisters, Bridget Watson of Jackson, Barbara Cathey of Sedgewickville, Mo., Megan McCarter of Cape Girardeau; and maternal grandmother, Nell Buente of Mesa, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Friends may call at New McKendree United Methodist Church after 11:15 a.m. Sunday.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will officiate.
McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
