Bret Groening

Bret Groening, 20, of Jackson died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Feb. 29, 1988, in Arlington, Texas, son of Gregory and Wendy Ricketts Groening.

Groening was a 2006 graduate of Jackson High School, where he was a member of the high school baseball team. He was a junior at Southeast Missouri State University.

He had been employed at Dalhousie Golf Club three and a half years. He attended Christ Church of the Heartland in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his parents of Jackson; a brother, Bradley Groening of Jackson; maternal grandparents, Mike and Nelda Ricketts of Arlington; and paternal grandparents, Harvey and VaLera Groening of Lawrence, Kan.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Zack Strong officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
