Brenda Joyce Eakins, 73, of Delta passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and exhausting battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

She was born July 23, 1944, in Allenville to the late Earl A. and Oma L. Bullinger Eakins.

She graduated from College High in Cape Girardeau and attended Southeast Missouri State University, where she played a number of sports. She received a degree in marketing management from Metro Business College.

She worked for several years at Superior Electric. While working at the factory on Nash Road, she and co-workers devised plans to escape the building and survive if the levee broke during floods.

Brenda was a collector. She inherited this trait from her father. Her philosophy was, "I'll keep this. I may be able to use it for something some day."

Brenda never met a stranger. This is one of the reasons she enjoyed going to the casino. There she socialized with folks she knew -- Al, Carolyn, Earl, Margaret and Danny, and made new friends, such as the ladies from the Hill in St. Louis and the majority of the employees of the casino.

One of her favorite times of the year was the 100-Mile Yard Sale. This gave her the opportunity to meet folks from everywhere. She enjoyed keeping track of where folks came from just for the sale.

Brenda is survived by her sister, Martha (David) Blumenberg; her children, Timothy (Andrea) Jones and their children, Alexander and Camia Jones, Deborah (Joseph) Lagrand, and Jessica (Jeremy) Kinder and their children, Evelyn and Logan Kinder; and an adopted sister, Janet Bond.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Leslie Earl Eakins, "her fishing buddy"; her trick pony, Scout; and her German shepherd, Valiant Lady Ranger.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee, Missouri.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the chapel, with Pastor Don Kuehle officiating. Burial will be at Morgan Memorial Park Cemetery in Advance, Missouri.

Brenda's last request was that everyone who smokes please quit.

Online condolences may be shared at www.amick-burnettfuneralchapels.com.
