Brenda Dunning, 72, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Sept. 24, 1951, in Delta to Edward Franklin and Veda Hermina Surface Dunning.

She attended Delta High School and later earned her GED.

Brenda truly lived a life of service by providing care to those in need by working as a certified nursing assistant for more than 20 years at Southeast Hospital. She continued this by being an organ donor. She received many awards for the services she gave to her community.

She loved visiting with family and petting her cats. In her pastime, she enjoyed watching her shows such as, "Chicago Fire", "Bewitched" and "I Love Lucy". She is remembered by her family as a loving, caring woman.

Brenda is survived by her loving siblings, Susan (Scott) Donley of Winona, Missouri, Carolyn (David) Whitmore of Cape Girardeau and James (Joan) Dunning of Jackson; nieces, Melissa Rose of Jackson and Ashley Whitmore of Cape Girardeau; nephews, Chris (Stacy) Dunning of Jackson, Anthony (Hannah) Dunning of Cape Girardeau and Phillip Dunning of Jackson; three great-nieces, Hannah Rose of St. Louis and Aria and Avery Dunning, and one great-niece on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Veda Hermina and Edward Franklin Dunning, and a niece, Kimberly Dawn.

Family and friends who were touched by the light of Brenda are invited to a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 24, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will follow at noon Friday, Nov. 24, at the funeral home, with Pastor Timothy Lee officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family to be used toward funeral expenses.
