MARBLE HILL, Mo. — Bonagene Devenport, 87, of Marble Hill died Thursday, June 15, 2023, at her home.
She was born Feb. 4, 1936, in Sedgewickville, Missouri, to Elmer Elves and Della Ann Cook Masters. She and Darrel F. Devenport were married Jan. 29, 1955, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death in November 2010. They shared 55 years of marriage.
Bonagene was a dedicated teacher for 35 years, teaching at the Bollinger County, Missouri, schools of Bessville, Scopus, Leopold and, lastly, Woodland.
She enjoyed the outdoors in any setting, from reading all day, sitting on the front porch to relax and maintaining her yard. She enjoyed travel, visiting states all over the nation with her dad, taking Alaskan and Hawaiian cruises and getting to go to Estes Park in Colorado.
Survivors include two sons, Roger (Gwyn) Devenport of Sedgewickville and Mark (Crescent) Devenport of Jackson; sister, Wilma (Rhuman) Hueter of Festus, Missouri; four grandchildren, Derek (Meridith) Devenport, David (Kayleen) Devenport, Megan Hurst and Colby Devenport; and three great-grandchildren, Lindyn Devenport, William Devenport and Kaci Hurst.
Bonagene was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, Randy Dean Devenport.
Visitation and funeral were held Monday, June 19, at Ford and Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Officiating the service was the Rev. Don Estes. Burial was at Pulliam Cemetery in Scopus.
