Bob Simpson, 86, passed away on Sept. 6, 2024. A civil engineer for MoDOT and a dedicated community member, Simpson co-founded the Sikeston girls softball league and was an elder at Sikeston First Christian Church.

Charles "Bob" Robert Simpson, 86, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Renick, son of the late Denzil Simpson and Rose Lee Martin Simpson.

Bob was a member of Sikeston First Christian Church since 1964, where he was an elder emeritus. He worked as a civil engineer for Missouri Department of Transportation for 40 years.

He was a co-founder of the Sikeston girls softball league, coached Little League, coached church league basketball and was also a part of Sikeston Bowling League. He was a member of the Honors Board wall at Sikeston Complex Park. He was an umpire for the girls softball league for 25 years.

His hobbies included coin and stamp collecting. He also enjoyed water skiing and going to auctions.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Lorraine Simpson. They married Sept. 14, 1958, in Newburg.

Other survivors include one son, Chuck (Ann) Simpson of Paducah, Kentucky; two daughters, Edie (John) Erkert of Sewickley, Pennsylvania, and Bobbi (Brent) King of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Emily Erkert, Anissa Erkert, Griffin (Breah) King and Katie Beth Simpson; and one great-grandchild, Roy Charles Rennie King, on the way.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.

Funeral will immediately follow at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, with Lloyd Smith officiating. Interment will be Thursday, Sept. 12, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Moberly.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to American Red Cross Foundation and Alzheimer’s Association.
