Bob McCord

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Robert Allen McCord, 78, of Sikeston died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at his home.

He was born Oct. 5, 1924, at Sikeston, son of Robert Allen and Gertrude Glascock McCord Sr. He and Amy I. Wilkinson were married Sept. 3, 1947, at Sikeston.

McCord was a corporal in the U.S. Marines Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II, serving at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands and in the occupation of Japan until 1946.

He was past president of the Sikeston Jaycees and the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on the Sikeston Public Schools Board of Education. McCord was a member and elder of the First Christian Church in Sikeston. He was a local businessman and chosen as Sikeston Man of the Year in 1978.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert A. McCord, III and Samuel Brian McCord, both of Sikeston; a brother, Joseph H. McCord of Sikeston; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, with Dr. Allen Shriver officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
