Blanche "Betty" Rohmann, 96, of Jackson, formerly of Chicago and Scranton, Pennsylvania, passed away Friday, July 21, 2023, at Monticello House in Jackson.
She was born Dec. 6, 1926, in St. Louis, daughter of Riley J. and Mayme Wallace Schweain. She married John Rohmann in 1957 in Chicago. He passed away in 2004.
Blanche was a 1943 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed attending services at First Baptist Church in Jackson while she was home from traveling. She was an active member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Scranton.
Blanche was known for her bright and outgoing personality. She loved people, socializing and was always the life of the party. She enjoyed traveling, and in her younger years, and she enjoyed watching shows and even partaking in plays on stage.
She had a very special bond with her beloved poodle, Pepe. He was a unique and special dog that held a loving spot in her heart.
Loving survivors include her boyfriend of 10 years, Joseph "Jay" Johnson of Scranton; brother, Jerry Schweain of Jackson; sister, Candy Gottfried of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. Blanche also leaves behind many special friends and health care professionals, who were also friends, at Monticello House in Jackson and Crown Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, John R. Schweain Jr., Clarence Schweain and Charles "Tommy" Schweain; and two sisters, Hazel Hampton Powers and Mary Niemann.
In honor of Blanche, the family suggests avoiding black colors and instead wearing your bright, blingy and blitzing colors, just like Blanche's beautiful personality.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, at the funeral home, with Pastor Steve Vester officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Southeast Missouri Pets, formerly the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri.
