MOUNDS, Ill. -- Blanche Mathis, 80, of Mounds died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Daystar Care Center in Cairo, Ill.

She was born March 2, 1921, in Centralia, Ill., daughter of Harry and Irene Chard Johnson. She married Charles Leo Mathis, who died May 23, 1984.

Mathis was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City, Ill.

Survivors include two daughters, Mercy Mowery of Salinas, Calif., Susan Schierbaum of Olmsted, Ill.; a brother, DeWitt Johnson of Noblesville, Ind.; a sister, Cleo Roberts of LaPlace, La.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There is no visitation.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at National Cemetery in Mound City. Msgr. Bill McGhee will officiate.

Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
