SIKESTON -- B.J. "Jack" Smith, 72, of Sikeston died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Sept. 25, 1925, in Canalou, the son of John and Alpha Vaughn Smith.
He married Wilma I. Barnes on May 18, 1946, at Canalou. She survives of the home.
He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, and worked for 40 years as a railroad agent for the Frisco and Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 645 in Clarkton, and attended the Fellowship Baptist Church in Sikeston.
Also surviving are a son, Jack D. Smith of the home; a daughter, Crissie Pyland of Sikeston; a brother, Johnny Duke Smith of Roberts, Ill.; two sisters, Earline Barnes of Sikeston and Camille Newingham of Risco; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Revs. Ted Wimberley and Tom Bray officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in sikeston.
