CAIRO, Ill. -- Birdie "Nanny" Sams, 105, of Cairo, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at her home.
She was born Jan. 5, 1893, in Greenville, Miss., daughter of Roy and Bella Roy Davison.
She was a Methodist and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Gold Star Mother during World War II.
She married Walter Sams. He died in 1969.
She is survived by a son, Earnest Sams of Deltona, Fla.; three daughters, Lula Moore Grassie of Rogers, Ark., Ruby Sams and Una Bell Berryhill, both of Cairo; seven grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, four sisters and a brother.
Service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo, with Dr. Larry L. Potts officiating. Interment will be at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday.
