ANNA, Ill. -- Funeral service for Birdie Huffman of Chester will be held at 2 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Brian Law officiating. Burial will be in Walker Hill Cemetery at Grand Tower.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. today.

Huffman, 94, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 1995, at Three Springs Lodge in Chester.

She was born Sept. 13, 1900, in Elco, daughter of George Washington and Estella Thompson Tanksley. She and Carl Huffman were married July 24, 1956. He died Oct. 8, 1982.

Huffman was formerly of Carbondale and Mound City. She retired from Holden Hospital in Carbondale, and was a member of First Baptist Church in Chester.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Hooppaw of Anna; a sister, Anna Atherton of Olmsted; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Blanche Dallas; three brothers, Freeman, Cecil and Alfred Tanksley.
