Birdie L. Fortenberry, 86, of Cape Girardeau, died Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Cape Girardeau to Sherman A. and Leona Foeste Maevers. She and Tom D. Fortenberry married July 9, 1971, in Cape Girardeau.
She had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau more than 60 years. She attended College High School in Cape Girardeau. Birdie had worked at Sears, Super D Drugstore, Montgomery Ward, Superior Electric and Davis Electric. She also owned Birdie's Motto Day Womens Clothing Store in the Town Plaza.
Survivors include her husband, Tom D. Fortenberry of Cape Girardeau; a son, Rickie (Valorie) Davis of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Gene (Phyllis) Maevers of Cape Girardeau; one grandchild, Kyle Davis; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Earl, Elmo and Roy Maevers; and four sisters, Mabel Green, Esther Maevers, Margie Bodenschatz and Hazel Heise.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Douglas C. Breite officiating. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau.
