Billy Gene Hampton, 72, of Cape Girardeau died at 3:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Dennie and Alice Langston Hampton. He married Ella Dee Jones.
He owned and operated Hampton Bakery in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of Centenary Methodist Church, Moolah Temple Excelsior Lodge 441 of Jackson, and was a 32nd degree Mason.
Hampton had served in the Navy during World War II, attaining the rank of seaman 1st class.
Surviving are sons, Billy G. Hampton Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., and Matthew D. Hampton of Marietta, Ga.; a daughter, Melissa Hampton Perlman, Roswell, Ga.; a sister, Joy Haney, Scott City; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son.
Friends may call at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 tonight.
A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Service will be at the funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Clayton Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park with military honors at 2:30 p.m.
