Billy Gene Benefield, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born March 12, 1935, in McClure, Illinois, to Clarence and Bertha Phillips Benefield.
Billy and Goldie Marie Pender were married Nov. 1, 1957, in Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death June 13, 2021.
He served four years in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of Hobbs Community Church in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Karen) Benefield and Tim (Lynnette) Benefield, both of Jackson; three sisters, Virginia Schearf of Cape Girardeau, Clara Mae (Bob) Tucker of East Cape Girardeau, Illinois, and Alice (Dave) Green of Scott City; three grandchildren, Kayla (Caylee Wheeler) Bredekamp and Cody Bredekamp, both of Cape Girardeau, and Casey (Kailyn) Benefield of Overland Park, Kansas; and a great-granddaughter, Kinley Benefield of Overland Park.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a daughter, Cindy Marie Benefield; a son-in-law, Richard Buckelew Jr.; five brothers, Russell (Alice) Benefield, Charles (Ollie) Benefield, Paul (Peggy) Benefield, Earl (Poochy) Benefield and Lawrence (Jennis) Benefield; a sister, Louise (John) Matlock; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Schearf.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Hobbs Community Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at the church, with Brother Dennis Hanabarger officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
