SIKESTON, Mo. -- Billie Garner, 88, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home. She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Huffman, Ark., daughter of William Blan and Anice Elizabeth Shorte Loflin. She and Dyer D. Garner were married Oct. 28, 1934, in Huffman. He died Jan. 24, 1984...

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Billie Garner, 88, of Sikeston died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home.

She was born Oct. 28, 1913, in Huffman, Ark., daughter of William Blan and Anice Elizabeth Shorte Loflin. She and Dyer D. Garner were married Oct. 28, 1934, in Huffman. He died Jan. 24, 1984.

Garner was a founding mother of Sikeston Little League Association, and was active in Little League, Babe Ruth and Connie Mac baseball leagues, and Women's Bowling Association.

She was a member of First General Baptist Church in Morehouse, Mo., and Wings, Missionary Society, Bible Class, and was involved with many church youth programs.

Survivors include four sons, Dyer "Sonny" Garner Jr., David and Tim Garner, all of Sikeston, Mike Garner of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Glenda Becker of Dexter, Mo., Pat Hesselrode of Murray, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, two brothers, and two sisters.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Randy Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
