Billie Joe Oxford, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at his home. He was born Jan 13, 1938, in Caruthersville, Missouri, son of John and Blanche Bell Oxford. He and June Auchmoody were married Oct 10, 1964, at Niagara Falls, New York. She survives.

Bill graduated from Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake, Illinois, and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He served in the U.S. Army and was a former member of VFW, Elks and Eagles. He was employed many years as a freight agent for various trucking companies and was a ham radio operator. Bill was an avid reader of military history and an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams. Many remember Bill when he owned The Club on Good Hope Street and co-owned Ox & Willies and Second Chance bars on Broadway in the 1980s.

Survivors include his loving wife, June; son, Andrew Oxford of Chicago; two daughters, Carrie (Brian) Gray of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Kathryn (Andrew) Lindsley of Greenbrier, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Andrew Oxford Jr., Corinne and Ryan Lindsley and Keller Gray; brother, Raymond Oxford of East Cape Girardeau, Illinois; two sisters, Pansy Huffman of Atlanta and Marjorie Rendleman of Anna, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
