CHAFFEE, Mo. -- G.E. "Bill" McFerron, 83, of Chaffee died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Advance, Mo., son of Abner Foster and Grace Edith Bollinger McFerron. He and Elizabeth "Betty" Campbell were married July 3, 1946.
Mr. McFerron was a conductor with Frisco Railroad Co. and Burlington Northern & Santa Fe Railway from 1946 to 1980. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Men, Elks Lodge 1810, VFW Post 3127, all in Chaffee, and United Transportation Union.
He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II in China, India, and Burma Air Offensive Japan. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William McFerron of Chaffee; a daughter, Sarah Dumey of Bloomfield, Mo.; a brother, Kenneth McFerron of Advance; five grandchildren, Darin McFerron of Chaffee, Collin Dumey of Corning, Ark., Brooke McFerron and Megan McFerron of Chaffee, Kurt Dumey of Bloomfield; two great-grandchildren, Kaitlin McFerron and Austin McFerron of Chaffee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, James McFerron, and a sister, Rosemary Pixley.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. Sunday.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marty Blakey and Watis Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery, with military graveside rites.
Pallbearers will be Joe and Howell Rice, Tom Davenport, Lynn Cotner, Pat and Eric Brazel. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Chaffee VFW Post 3127.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.
