William "Bill" Gill, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Patterson, Mo., son of Irvin and Clara Schlater Gill. He and Janice Mary Gill were married Dec. 29, 1956, in Hernando, Miss. She died Nov. 25, 1995.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy 20 years, 15 in submarine service. He was a veteran of World War II, retiring from the military in 1963.
He then worked at Atomic Reactor Research Center at the University of Missouri, retiring in 1973. Bill was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
Survivors include a stepson, Ronnie Sietz of San Antonio; two sisters, Mary Berryman of Cape Girardeau and Jane Steele of Columbia, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a stepson, Jerry Sietz; a stepdaughter, Barbara Guth; a brother; and a sister.
Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. to service time Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
