William H. "Goose" Call, 85, of Jackson passed away Monday, Sept. 12, 2016, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 22, 1931, in Jackson, son of Lawrence R. and Amelia Engelmann Call. He and Erma King were married May 11, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Bill was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on Jan. 31, 1951, and served during the Korean War until being honorably discharged Jan. 17, 1955. He worked in the shipping and receiving department for the former Jim Wilson Co. 30 years, before retiring in 1992. Bill was a charter member of Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson and enjoyed golfing, along with quail hunting with his dogs, working with his Tennessee walking horse and watching Cardinals baseball. He was a member of the American Legion in Jackson, and a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Loving survivors include his wife of 64 years, Erma; a daughter, Kim (Bill) Potts of St. Petersburg, Florida; three grandchildren, Nicholas Potts, Anna Potts and Sarah Potts of St. Petersburg; and many kind and considerate nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest "Tink" Call and Ralph Call; and two sisters, Rosebud Call and Hunter Jean Sewing.
The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at chapel B of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric Longman officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with military honors.
The family suggests contributions be made to St. Paul Music Ministry, St. Paul Lutheran School or the church or charity of choice.
