Betty Jean Hawks Wilson, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at her daughter's home in Whitewater. She was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Fleming B. Hawks and Ruby Niswonger Hawks Corbin Seabaugh. She and William G. "Dub" Wilson were married Feb. 12, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. He died Jan. 10, 1987...

Betty Jean Hawks Wilson, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at her daughter's home in Whitewater.

She was born Dec. 27, 1929, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Fleming B. Hawks and Ruby Niswonger Hawks Corbin Seabaugh. She and William G. "Dub" Wilson were married Feb. 12, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. He died Jan. 10, 1987.

Betty was a very active member of Red Star Baptist Church over 50 years, where she taught Sunday school to 6-year-olds, did Bible study at church and helped with Bible school. She was a former president and active member of Cape Police Wives Auxiliary.

She was owner/operator of Snappy Delivery service from 1953 to 1957. She was a former member of Eagles, American Legion, Elks and VFW auxiliaries. She was president of VFW Auxiliary from 1980 to 1981. She also served many chairmanships with VFW auxiliary and traveled around the district doing programs such as "Drive to Survive Program."

Survivors include three sons, Brad G. Wilson and wife Mary of Sikeston, Mo., Rodney G. Wilson and wife Kathleen of Chester, Va., Larry G. Wilson of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Charlynda G. Palmer and husband Russell of Whitewater; a brother, G. Paul Corbin of St. Charles, Mo.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Seba June Corbin.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Red Star Baptist Church, American Diabetes Association and the Arthritis Foundation.
